Text Mining the Indian Claims Commission: Doing Digital History In-Person
Peter Jones' research analyzed the decisions of the Indian Claims Commission, a judicial body that operated from 1946 through about 1978 and attempted to right legal wrongs perpetrated by the United States on Indigenous tribes. Analysis of these thousands of complex legal decisions also provide a case study in using online archival sources. In addition to discussing the history of the Indian Claims Commission, Jones will provide lessons from his workflow that may apply in your own research.
